Because you have demonstrably completed at least 10 driving lessons on a manual and passed an internal assessment drive. The authority accepts that proof — which is why no Code 78 appears on your licence.
B197 makes particular sense for anyone who gets nervous in tests or wants a calmer start. Since no restriction is left behind afterwards, for most people it's a smart alternative to the ordinary B.
No. You may drive a manual from day one. With B197 there is no later conversion and no follow-up test — unlike the automatic-only entry under Code 78.
